A Stranger Am I
From all I stand apart; ask not the why ?;
The heart itself has chosen this release.
Shall some breast house my grief; it wanders by,
A reed cut loose, compelled to sing its peace.
My heart was clean, and once I held it whole;
Too much I trusted what so soon shall ring,
Heart's a bird that seeks where joys console,
Then leaves the branch as sorrow starts to sing.
A stranger am I, in this vast domain,
A city spun from dust and borrowed breath.
I walked wide-open; who was there to chain
This door, that let the winds rehearse my death?
If once I vowed, forgive me when I’m gone;
Send not my mail to earth, but where souls dawn.
