Forever Sonnets (Poetry Blog)

Sunflowers Kanako chewed the roasted sunflower seeds in her back teeth and mumbled that there were no poets in this country. She propped her elbows on the balcony wall and sighed again. The view from the top of this skyscraper was like a graveyard, she thought as she bit into the seed. Kanako took a single seed from the drooping sunflower in the vase and tucked it into the locket around her neck as if it were a talisman. The silver locket shone against the white silk shirt she favored. Perhaps that was why the air currents seemed to swirl around her when she was close. Kanako touched the locket and wondered where in the world poetry could be born. This plague is nothing new, she thought as she placed her palm on the rocket in her chest and looked down at the ground. A seed to bring sanity to the hearts of the insane.
