Lullaby of Rain

The high seas rise in me, for I give birth To streams that sing as through the land they fly. I am the laughter of the fruits and flowers, And joy within the little buds my kisses bring. The mountain breeze does herald my showers, Winds and waves in skies do dance and sing. Before my steps, the world's folk dream and pine, They call me forth to grace their festal days. The rainbow, like a promise, does combine With hope that I shall come in joyous rays. When I descend, all earthy life renews again, Joy in joy does dance, goodbye the pain. A loyal heart's lament

Whilst in my vast solitude I chanced to see Your bosom, cold as winter's chilliest breeze, Ah, see, my loyalty, unshaken, stood by thee, Despite life's setbacks, which like fleeting seas Did rage and roar, but soon didst calm and cease. And in your eyes like sapphire, I thought to find Mine peace, my unending joy, my heart's release. But you, O, disloyal friend, didst prove a tease, Your vows, like sunset-leaves, withered and fell, And in your eyes, my steadfast love did dwell, But never descended to my heart's deep well. Now, the sorrow, tears, and anguish I must tell, Under the shade of this lonely Oak, I pour My plaint, and seek a repose in heaven's roar.
