Moon or Mage
From heart’s reservoir to trembling lips it nears,
A ballad unnamed, but yet bonnie as spring air;
The face unseen, what wandering spirit appears
To bind my heart and leave my soul laid bare?
From meeting gazes, where old penumbras lie,
A whisper wakes—O speak, you sealed visage!
What secrets stir beneath your beauty’s tie,
To steal my repose or bless my passing age?
Is Moon or mage the weaver of this charm
That melts the stars who keep their watch above?
Your glance has turned each rustic spirit warm,
And made the blue vault testify our love.
Tonight the orbits in hushed enchantment shine,
While you, strange heart, dwell in all my time.
