 Shuttered Dreams

Behold, lily-white globules, bright they are,

Soft pathways woven, a couch of powder deep.

Larks humming in the air, sweet as a star,

Penguins feast, as they from frozen waters creep.

Celestial care on Earth’s rough fields did shine,

Snow fell to cleanse the world as sweet as dew.

A longing stirred amidst these flakes divine;

Sylphs in their Ice Queen’s robe drank brew.

The winter’s chill, a sacred, spectral scene,

My eyes beheld the visions cold and yet fair.

A zeal was born, unearthly, sharp, and keen,

That shaped crystal forms the frosty air.

Until the owl intoned a prophet’s word,

And witches’ joy dissolved, their song unheard.
