Tears of heaven

From Heaven’s great urn—I pour a liquid grace,

To quench the fevered earth’s profoundest thirst!

My surge compels the swelling seas embrace,

And streams are born round courses singing first.

They sing their changeless hymn—I am the mirth

Of fruitful bough, of every flower that blows;

Showers, the breezes proclaim, before my birth,

Are but men’s dreams when bitter winter snows.

And in men’s prayers—when I descend to prove,

A covenant arch, a sacred sign, am I:

A promise of return!—a holy love,

That warms all life beneath the weeping sky.

A new light dawns, where splendor shines in bliss—

Doubt not the tears… that God Himself would kiss:
