Oh, would that, I could love my native land

Bird songs soothe my soul and make it fresh,

I planted cute trees around my humble cot,

To lure all birds, in colors lavish and mesh,

But in this ice-cold, their numbers falter, fraught.

Though here the winter bites with icy hand,

Where few can brave the frosty night’s cruel bite,

They bear the chill, as steadfast as they stand,

While I, less patient, long for warmer light.

No corn nor seed can they in snow discern,

Wow still they stay, when others might take flight,

They roam not to lands where sun does burn,

Nor waste the earth where foreign airs invite.

They love their home, content with what’s at hand,

Oh, would that I could love my native land.
